Desire~

October 27, 2013
I read the following scripture the other day, and got a new perspective on it:  “as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious” (1 Peter 2:2-3).  I have friends that have a newborn baby, and have heard that little one screaming because she was desperately wanting to be fed by her momma.  It is clear in this passage that we are to desire the pure milk of the word just as that baby.  I thought about my own life, and had to ask myself; Do I desire the pure milk of the word?… Convicted!  I definitely desire to have that desire, but honestly fall short.  Desire is to wish or long for; crave or want.  I need to desire the Word of God with the same persistence as that newborn for the mother!  There is also a verse in the Psalms that describes that desire for the living God.  “As the deer pants (to long with breathless or intense eagerness) for the water brooks, so my soul longs (to have earnest or strong desire or craving) for You, O God. My soul thirsts (a strong or eager desire; craving) for God, for the living God” (Psalm 42:1-2).  Does my life show that?  Does my soul long for God, the living God as much as the deer pants for that water?  Lord God, I pray that I completely surrender to You, and that my desire for Your word grows stronger and deeper.  I pray to have a deep desire for Your word, to crave it like the newborn baby desires feeding. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Make the most of every moment~

October 19, 2013
My heart is sad for friends tonight.  Loved ones have passed away.  Loved ones are going to pass very soon.  It makes me think about life, and its guarantees.  There are none.  Life is short.  We are not guaranteed tomorrow, not guaranteed our next breath, we must make the most of every moment.  For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away” (James 4:14). Life is too short to hold grudges, be bitter, or wait to do this or that.  Release people of their faults, release yourself of any bitterness so that you can have quality of life with the life you have. Don’t wait for the right time to go and do, there are no certainties of future time.  You have been given the gift of life by a loving Creator who you will meet when your life here is over.  Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” (James 1:17).  Live in the moment, be in the moment. Regardless of how people pass, God has His plans.  “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11).  We don’t often understand, but His ways are not our ways.  He is more capable of deciding what people go through than me, or anyone. “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord” (Isaiah 55:8).   There is no time to be wasted on worrying about things, trying to figure out the whys, holding grudges, harboring bitterness, or any other thing that takes any of our energy, joy, or opportunity to do or say what we have the ability to do with the shorts breaths we have to breathe as long as He allows.  Be sad, miss your loves ones, cherish the memories, and don’t forget to joy in your own journey.
