Honor your vows. Honor the covenant that was made
between you and God. Love your spouse. Marriage takes work.
It is worth it. Do the work. Cherish your spouse.
"So then, they are no longer two but one flesh.
Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate” (Matthew
19:6). No man; that means each other too. When marriages fail, the
two that become one are torn apart.
I was once shown a visual that has stuck in my
brain. Take two pieces of paper and glue
them together from corner to corner, and let them dry; now try tearing those
two papers apart without remnants of one being on the other. It is
impossible. "Though one may be
overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not
quickly broken" (Ecclesiastes 4:12). Two can withstand, three (add
God!) is not quickly broken. If you
allow God to be the head or your marriage, it will be strong, not without
challenge, but doable.
Go and tell your spouse you love them, even if you don’t
feel like it. The response may amaze you.
If you are struggling, pray, and seek help from those around you. Listen to wise counsel. Do your part to keep your marriage alive and
thriving. Don’t give up… Ever.
